Our commitment for Sustainability

It’s not just words: in 2022, we’ve shared with our key stakeholders a detailed report based on the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards.

We identify as “Sustainable by definition” for a reason: we’ve embedded the main sustainability topics within Capua’s own Integrated Management System. Our IMS includes policies, procedures and actions that have a major impact on Capua 1880’s activity, such as products Quality and Safety, Environment, Health & Safety at work. One example is our “zero waste” policy across both production sites, which aims at minimising as much as possible raw material waste and optimise their use. We are able to reach this goal through good practices of recycling and re-use, even upcycling when possible. Another example is our focus on energy consumption: we purchase exclusively electric energy from renewable sources, and we have installed solar panels to enhance our capacity to generate clean energy.

Our certifications

Capua 1880’s production processes strictly abide by the ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, and FSSC 22000 standards, for which we are fully certified.

Whilst we’ve always been committed to protect and promote the environment, in 2016 we also joined UEBT (Union for Ethical Biotrade). This is because we believe that our company’s focus on sustainability must also reflect on the way we manage our Supply Chain: we encourage and support our suppliers with using ethical sourcing methods that respect people and biodiversity. Our efforts in this resulted in our receiving UEBT certification, an independent validation that the citrus (orange, mandarin and bergamot) we grow are ethically sourced. The certification covers dozens of Calabrian farms and growers cooperatives, representing 240 hectares of cultivated land.

Last but not least, as we deeply care for and respect ethical and religious values, our products and production methods are in the process of being Organic, Halal and Kosher certified.
